SPINDLE MONITORING IDEA-4S

SPINDLE MONITORING IDEA-4S

WITH IDEA-4S, THE SPINDLE DETERMINES PROCESS VALUES IN REAL TIME

IDEA-4S provides machine builders and designers with the perfect technology for the digitalization of drive technology and motor spindles in machine tools. This makes process analysis, performance improvements in production and new digital services possible.

DIGITALIZATION FOR SPINDLES AND MOTORS

FOR CONSTRUCTION AND
DEVELOPMENT

The advantages of IDEA-4S – the Integrated Data Evaluation and Acquisition For Spindles – for drive technology can already be seen in the design of spindles and motors. The embedded system can be easily installed in different drive components. Originally developed for GMN’s own spindles, it can now be used for all commercially available motors.

SPINDLES AND MOTORS PROVIDE INFORMATION

During operation, the compact, easily integrated information technology enables every spindle and motor to collect relevant information, enrich it and interpret it.

THE HANDLING IS VERY
SIMPLE

The IDEA-4S electronics determine the data and make it available for exchange and communication in production networks using bidirectional signals via a digital IO-Link interface.

IDEA-4S opens up new horizons in drive technology for machine tools.

THIS IS WHAT IDEA-4S CAN DO

MEASURE AND ANALYZE DATA

• 5 analog inputs for PT 100 temperature sensors

• 1 analog input for a NAMUR speed sensor

• 3 digital inputs (ex. drawbar position sensors)

• 1 internal 3-axis vibration sensor

These signals are recorded, evaluated, and made available via an IO-Link interface

IDENTIFY SPINDLES AND MOTORS

IDEA-4S has a digital nameplate to identify the spindle and can store application data such as the machine number or installation date.

SPINDLE MONITORING

For each sensor, IDEA-4S provides statistical values such as minimum and maximum values, status such as alarm and fault, and histograms to track operating time in specific value ranges. In addition, the system can analyze the fingerprint of a spindle or monitor the process.

THE IO-LINK INTERFACE: COMMUNICATION USING FUTURE TECHNOLOGY

The IDEA-4S electronics is an IO-Link interface for spindle monitoring that transmits sensor values as process data and additional acyclic information such as diagnostic data or configuration parameters. The operation of the device requires an IO-Link master. An IODD file (IODD = IO-Link Device Description) is required to configure the electronics. The IO-Link interface is fully described in the IODD. GMN can provide the IODD upon request. IDEA-4S uses COM3 speed according to the latest IO-Link specification 1.1.3. By using the IO-Link interface, it is possible to implement IDEA-4S in a modern IIoT infrastructure.

IO-LINK SIMPLIFIES INTEGRATION INTO MODERN IIOT INFRASTRUCTURES

The embedded system IDEA-4S fits perfectly into modern IIoT structures. By using IO-Link as an interface, it can be used independently of field bus systems and, therefore, universally for all controls. Modern IO-Link masters allow a seamless connection to IIoT infrastructures without putting a strain on the performance of the controller. IO-Link also enables simple point-to-point communication. This means that devices can be easily replaced without tools and can be easily implemented thanks to the complete device description. What also speaks in favor of IO-Link as an interface is a high level of acceptance. The number of IO-Link nodes rose to more than 21 million by 2020 – and the community continues to grow.

ADDITIONAL ACYCLIC INFORMATION FOR BETTER SPINDLE PERFORMANCE

Additional acyclic information such as the digital nameplate and drive component asset management information can be accessed and written manually. Users can also read out statistical values for operating data.

SENSORS CONTINUOUSLY RECORD PROCESS VALUES DURING PRODUCTION

The system continuously records a series of cyclic sensor signals, evaluates them simultaneously and transmits the process values with information to:

  • Storage temperature
  • Coolant temperature
  • Number of revolutions
  • Tool clamping condition
  • Vibration
  • Axial displacement of the shaft

IDEA-4S IS AVAILABLE IN THREE DIFFERENT VARIANTS

The system can be configured depending on the sensor interfaces used. There are three different product lines: Basic, Standard and Advanced.

  • IDEA-4S Basic only provides the vibration signal without connected external sensors as well as the nameplate and application data.
  • IDEA-4S Standard also activates temperature and speed measurement.
  • IDEA-4S Advanced offers the possibility of using additional sensor systems such as: B. to connect a release unit.
